Wine
Storage Benefits
Wine evolves in the bottle and matures to its peak best under
controlled conditions for storing and nurturing wine.
- Free
up room in your house or apartment by keeping a small
portion of your wines at home, and the remainder under the
controlled conditions that will ideally nurture and mature
your wine.
- The
cost of storage for age-worthy wines is far less than the
premium you will pay to acquire these wines later, if you
can find them at all.
- The
provenance of your wines is assured because you know they
are being stored under ideal conditions.
Temperature
Maintaining
a constant temperature, preferrrable 55F, enables wine to age
to its full potential. The Wine Grotto has backup cooling
units for use during primary unit servicing. In addition, the
facility's block walls are insulated with 7" of rigid
insulation minimixing the effects of outside heat load in the
event of a power outage.
Humidity
A
relative humidity of 70% is considered ideal for wines. A
lower relative humity can cause corks to dry, allowing wine to
spoil. While a higher relative humidity can cause corks and
labels to mildew.
Vibration
Vibrations
experienced by wines stored in household wine refrigerations
will impair your wine's quality aging process. The mass of The
Wine Grotto and the construction materials used, help to
minimize this effect.
Light
Natural
and incandescent light harms wine, while flourescent light
does not. Home storage frequently exposes wines to these
harmful rays. The Wine Grotto uses flourescent lighting only. |
